Outdoor Lanterns to Spice Up Your Garden

One of the most important aspects of a garden is lighting. It might not attract a lot of attention during the day, but once night comes the proper lighting fixtures can make or break the entire look of your garden. That is why you want to make sure that you make the right choices. When it comes to patio umbrella lights, it is best to go with something practical and energy-efficient. However, if you also want to add a unique aspect to your overall look, you can do so with the outdoor lanterns that can come in a wide variety of design choices.

1. Classic Candles in Jars
This is a good choice if you want to go with the classic and simple look. They fit well if you are using a traditional theme for the garden decorations. They might look old and worn out, but a lot of effort is gone into actually recreating that appearance using modern materials.

2. Shoji Lanterns
These look great on a patio, but the main issue here is to have somewhere to install them since they need to hang from a structure placed above. The best part about these lanterns is that solar Shoji lanterns are also available which are more energy-efficient.

3. Paper Lanterns
These are another favorite that can be found in many gardens all over the world. They come with multiple benefits: they are inexpensive, easy to install, easy to replace and the fact that they are made from paper means that you can get them in a wide variety of designs and colors.

Small Space Garden Projects with Miracle Gro’s The Gro Project

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Miracle-Gro for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

Earlier this year, John and I moved into a small apartment complex, shared with other tenants.  We previously lived in a house by ourselves and had a huge yard in which we planted a garden.  This year, we had to improvise.  We still wanted to grow vegetables, but we are not allowed to dig up the yard, and don't have much space to work with.

So, John and I headed to Lowe's and picked up a few 5 gallon buckets. We filled them up with Miracle-Gro Moisture Control Potting Mix, and planted peas, tomatoes, lettuce and catnip (for our furry friends).

The plants are growing very well, and we can't wait until they are ready to eat!  It was really such a simple project, and sure beats digging up the yard, removing rocks, dealing with weeds, etc.  Gardening in buckets is super easy!

Living in a small space doesn't mean that fun garden projects are off limits.  Check out The Gro Project for some awesome ideas to get you started.  Get your kids involved and make it a fun summer activity.  Gardening teaches children lots of valuable lessons!

Check out Miracle-Gro on Pinterest for even more projects, and make the most out of this planting season!  If you visit Miracle-Gro online, you'll be able to access their expansive library of articles and videos full of expert gardening tips for both beginners and professionals!  They also have great tools to help growers solve common garden problems and can help you find the right products to keep your garden healthy and beautiful!

Get Stylin’ with Old Navy Dresses! #OldNavyStyleCouncil

So, yes, it’s winter time, which means it’s freezing cold outside.  Well, it is here in Maine anyway.  But, that doesn’t mean that you can’t wear dresses still.  With Christmas and New Year’s Eve right around the corner, why not dress up a little to celebrate the holidays?  If you’re looking for a great dress to wear for that special occasion, look no further than your local Old Navy store!

Once again, I was lucky enough to be chosen for another Old Navy shopping spree through my Crowdtap membership.  This was my SIXTH Old Navy shopping trip!  I have been so blessed to be chosen for all of these, and each one has just been incredibly fun.  I received two coupons – one for me, and one for a friend, to each get a FREE dress of our choice!

Old Navy Dresses

As usual, my sister Angela tagged along with me this time to pick out a dress.  Amber didn’t want to come, as she doesn’t wear dresses very often.  Angela practically lives in them though, so she was over the moon to come with me!  Our friend Danielle also came, because she loves dresses too!

When we got to Old Navy, we scanned the store for the dresses, and found a few racks.  All of the dresses were very retro looking, but really cute!  I love when they bring back those old styles and update them a little bit.  Angela was right in heaven, as she is into all things 60′s & 70′s.

Old Navy Dresses

I just love the look of this jean jacket paired with the black and white striped dress.

Old Navy Dresses

There were some very bright colors!

Old Navy Dresses

I ponder it for a moment, but I’m just not daring enough for red!  Notice the black under my arm??

Old Navy Dresses

Again, I am drawn to the look of denim over the dress, but the color is still too bright for me!

Old Navy Dresses

Angela isn’t scared away by the bright colors though, and that’s a good thing because she can totally pull them off!

Old Navy Dresses

Danielle takes a look at this pink dress.

Old Navy Dresses

While I look at MORE black dresses!

Old Navy Dresses

John caught me with a red dress in my hand.  I was just holding onto it for Angela though!

Old Navy Dresses

This is John, the love of my life, by the way.  How’d I get so lucky to find a guy who will put up with all of us ladies and take pictures for us on all of these Old Navy shopping trips??  He never complains, and is always happy to help me out!  I found this self-portrait in with all the Old Navy pictures he took.  He also makes me laugh quite often!

Old Navy Dresses

As always, we had a blast shopping together!  Notice those funky & colorful dresses Angela’s looking at??

Old Navy Dresses

I’m still browsing around, but I’m just not sure about those bright colors.  If I wasn’t four months pregnant, I might be a bit more daring, but right now I’m trying to distract people from looking at my belly!  ;)

Old Navy Dresses

Danielle grabs a red dress too.  She’s not afraid of bright colors either!

Old Navy Dresses

Old Navy Dresses

We grabbed a bunch of dresses, and walked around the store some more to see if we could find any other ones, and we did!  There was another display of dresses, that were a bit dressier and more modern than the other ones we had found.  These were definitely more my style.

Old Navy Dresses

Notice that sign there?  Buy 1, get 1 50% off STORE-WIDE!!

Old Navy Dresses

We had a great time looking at these dresses.  They were gorgeous!  I love the belt around the waist.  It’s a very flattering look.

Old Navy Dresses

Old Navy Dresses

Just wait until you see Angela in this bright orange dress.  She looks HOT!  I sure wish I could pull off orange!

Old Navy Dresses

They check out the wall of adorable shoes!  Old Navy is so smart to put these right above the dresses.  What girl doesn’t love to mix and match shoes, and with all the choices, the combinations are endless!

Old Navy Dresses

Look, there’s me picking out ANOTHER black dress!

Old Navy Dresses

Black & white stripes maybe?

Old Navy Dresses

We headed on over to the dressing rooms to try on our choices.  By this time, I was feeling pretty sluggish.  Pregnancy will do that to you pretty quickly.  Sadly, I didn’t really try on as many as I would have liked to, but I found one I liked pretty quickly anyway.

I tried on this sweater dress.  While very comfortable, it was just not at all flattering on me.  Can you say baby bump?!

Old Navy Dresses

Next, I tried on this cute black dress with a bright pink belt.

Old Navy Dresses

Danielle had the same idea!  We both stepped out of our dressing room at the same time, wearing the same dress!  Danielle ended up buying this one!

Old Navy Dresses

Angela tried on this beautiful black dress.

Old Navy Dresses

We posed for a group shot.

Old Navy Dresses

I tried on that black dress next, and that’s the one I ended up getting!

Old Navy Dresses

Danielle looked so cute in this red dress.

Old Navy Dresses

Angela tried on the green version!  She was born on St. Patty’s Day, so green is her color!

Old Navy Dresses

Danielle looks great in purple!

Old Navy Dresses

And I really love the black and grey striped dress on her!

Old Navy Dresses

But, I think she is just stunning in this green dress!

Old Navy Dresses

Angela tried on one of the bright, funky patterns.  I swear this girl can pull off ANYTHING!

Old Navy Dresses

Then she tried on that stunning green dress too, and totally rocked it!

Old Navy Dresses

She fell right in love with this dress, and spent at least 20 minutes deciding whether or not she wanted this one, or…. this gorgeous orange one!  She was absolutely breathtaking in this orange dress.  She had such a hard time making up her mind.  She consulted Danielle and I, the Old Navy sales people, and she even texted pictures of herself in both dresses to our Mom to get her opinion!

Old Navy Dresses

After A LOT of consideration, she finally decided to buy the orange one!  She really liked that the green one had long sleeves, and that she could have worn it on St. Patty’s Day, but this orange one, is really going to turn heads, and she just looks awesome in it!

Old Navy Dresses

We grabbed our dresses, and headed to the checkout!

Mrs. Smith’s Signature Deep Dish Pies Review & Giveaway – Win a $50 Williams-Sonoma Gift Card!

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Mrs. Smith’s for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

Thanksgiving is over, but I say, there’s always room for pie!!  I recently received coupons to try out Mrs. Smith’s Signature Deep Dish pies, and boy, was I excited to try these!  They come in 4 different flavors – Dutch Apple with a Caramel Sauce, Cherry with a Butter Fudge Sauce, Peach with a Cream Cheese Icing, and Pumpkin with a Cream Cheese Icing.

The only store in my area that sold these pies was Walmart, so I headed on over to pick them up.  You can find local retailers here.

When I got to Walmart, I was a little disappointed to find that they did not carry the Peach Pie with Cream Cheese Icing.  They had all of the other 3 pies in stock, so I grabbed those and headed on my way.  I was really excited to get home and bake these pies up!

Mrs. Smith’s Signature Deep Dish Pies are frozen, and they have a bit of cooking time on them, from 40 minutes to 100, depending on which pie you are baking.  So, if you plan to serve these, make sure you take that cooking time into consideration.  The pies also need to cool for at least an hour before serving, if you want them to slice nicely.  I made the mistake of cutting into them too soon, and the cherry and apple pies both fell apart on me.  They just smelled so good, that I was too impatient to wait!

The pies all came out great.  My only complaint is that the crust is a bit delicate and fell off a bit while baking.  Other than that, they looked great, smelled great, and even better – they tasted GREAT!

The pumpkin pie was absolutely delicious – smooth & creamy, and the addition of the cream cheese icing, made it even better.  I never would have thought to put these two flavors together in a pie, but if you think about it, it’s kind of like a pumpkin cream cheese roll!

Mrs. Smith Signature Deep Dish Pumpkin Pie

The apple pie too, was just amazing.  I was really eager to dig into it, so I did not wait for it to cool down, and it  completely fell apart on me as I was dishing it up.  I don’t care though, it still looked and tasted awesome! The caramel sauce really added a great bite of flavor to it!  If you love the combination of apples and caramel as much as I do, you’ll definitely love this pie!

Mrs. Smith's Signature Deep Dish Apple Pie

I think the cherry pie was my favorite.  It was just bursting with flavor, and butter fudge sauce?? Don’t mind if I do!!  The crust on this pie cracked quite a bit on me.  I don’t think I put enough vent holes in the top of it, even though I did put 5 as suggested on the box.  Maybe I just didn’t make them big enough or deep enough.  Oh well, it still tasted amazing!  I also really love the color combination of the dark fudge sauce and the bright red cherries.  It’s just gorgeous!  Who wouldn’t want to dig into that?!

Mrs. Smith's Signature Deep Dish Cherry Pie

I really wish I would have had the opportunity to try out the peach pie.  I bet it is also delicious!  I’m going to hang onto my extra coupon and keep checking my local Walmart to see if they get it in stock so I can try it.

Are you drooling over these awesome pies yet??  These would make great additions to your table this Christmas, or any time of year really!  If you’re not in the mood for baking, just pop one of these in the oven, and you’re good to go!

I have a great giveaway for you all!!  One winner will win a coupon good for a FREE Mrs. Smith’s Signature Deep Dish Pie of their choice, and a $50.00 Williams-Sonoma gift card!!  Wouldn’t that come in handy for Christmas?!  This giveaway is open to US residents only.  This giveaway is in no way associated with or sponsored by Facebook.  Winner must contact me within 48 hours at moneysavingmindy@gmx.com to claim their prize, or a new winner may be selected.  This giveaway will end at 11:59pm EST on Friday, December 14, 2012.

I Have a BIG Announcement! And YES, it’s Probably What You are Thinking!! ;)

You may have noticed that I’ve been MIA for the past couple of months.  Well, there’s a very good reason for that!!    A couple of months ago, and actually on my birthday, I found out that I’m going to be a Mommy!!  John and I are so very excited, and I’m so happy that I can finally share my amazing news with you all!  I am now 13.5 weeks pregnant, due around May 8, 2013!

Pregnant Me

The first couple of months were really rough on me.  I was completely exhausted all.the.time.  On top of trying to maintain this blog, I work full time as a Paralegal.  I’d get home at 6pm, and pass out before I could even make dinner.  On the weekends, I’d get up for a couple of hours, and then I’d go lay down for a “nap”, which turned into a 6 hour sleeping session.  I could not bring myself to get out of bed, and definitely did not have the energy to put into my blog.

A couple weeks ago, I received a call from my midwife’s office.  My blood work had come back, and as it turns out, my Vitamin D level was extremely low.  Apparently average is somewhere around 35, and mine was down to 20!  That’s what I get for living in Maine, where the weather is cold, and the days have been rainy and dreary lately.  No sunshine = huge lack of Vitamin D.  I was told to start taking 2000mg of Vitamin D3 every day, and I am finally starting to get my energy back!

I know I owe a couple of people some prizes from giveaways that were held over the Summer, and I am trying my best to get those packaged up and out in the mail.  I will get to them as soon as I can, I promise.

I am also terribly backed up on reviews, and a couple of cool giveaways, and hope to get to those very soon too.  I’ve got lots of great things coming your way, if I can just find the time and energy to get to them!

I thank you for your patience during this time, and hopefully you’ll be seeing a lot more of me soon.  I have really missed writing for you all!
